A heart after God

Our Father-God is omniscient and He surely knows our hearts... this is how I would like to frame this week’s topic “a heart after God”.

God is omniscient, selected Scripture:

Psalm 139:1-3 – O Lord, you have searched me and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.

Romans 11:33 – Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!

God knows our hearts, selected Scripture:

1Kings 8:39 - For you alone knows the hearts of all men.

Romans 8:16 - The Holy Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children.

Acts 13:22 – After removing Saul, he made David their king. He testified concerning him: “I have found David son of Jesse a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.”

We have learned from pastor Rick Warren that God is not interested in perfection but He is interested in “a heart after God”. The following Scripture lists what "a heart after God" means. Please read and meditate on these verses in Psalm until next week’s devotional.

Humble - Psalm 62:9 – Lowborn men are but a breath, the highborn are but a lie; if weighed on a balance, they are nothing; together they are only a breath.

Reverent - Psalm 18:3 – I call to the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies.

Respectful - Psalm 31:9 – Be merciful to me, O Lord, for I am in distress; my eyes grow weak with sorrow, my soul and my body with grief.

Trusting - Psalm 27:1 – The Lord is my light and my salvation – whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life – of whom shall I be afraid?

Loving - Psalm 18:1 – I love you, O Lord, my strength.

Devoted - Psalm 4:7 – You have filled my heart with greater joy than when their grain and new wine abound.

Recognition - Psalm 9:1 – I will praise you, O Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonders.

Faithful - Psalm 23:6 – Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Obedient - Psalm 119:34 – Give me understanding, and I will keep your law and obey it with all my heart.

Repentant - Psalm 25:11 – For the sake of your name, O Lord, forgive my inequity, though it is great.
