Topic no. 8 – Assurance... We have studied the Believer’s Prayer in Matthew 6:8-13 in the last 7 months from Aug 2018 to Mar 2019. This is the last topic.
Now as we know what we should pray, God gave us added assurance that He knows our need before we pray and He also prays for us!
Matthew 6:8 – Your father knows what you need before you ask him.
Romans 8:26 – In the same way, the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words can’t express.
Romans 8:34 – Jesus is by the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.
Thank God for loving us so much… And Paul wrote in Philip 4:6-7 – Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving present your request to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Lastly, how do we have peace and confidence when we pray? I will repeat what I had shared in the past. In the message “The Daniel’s Prayer” based on Daniel 2:20-23, Anne Graham-Lotz (Billy Graham’s daughter) pointed out 3 C’s – Covenant, Clarity, and Confidence.
a) Covenant is what God has called us to be and to do. Daniel thanked God for making known the dream of King Nebuchadnezzar’s (Daniel 2:23). Our first covenant with God is to be His son & daughter. We may have another covenant, which is a specific job or role to do for God. For me, among a few things, is to be an online missionary to help people to know and love Jesus.
b) Clarity is to discern the purpose of our prayer. Daniel praised God for what He had done (Daniel 2:20-22). The only purpose is to glorify God, no selfish reasons. God can be praised for the blessings and provisions that He gives to us.
c) Confidence is to be assured that God hears our prayer. It requires faith because we don't know of His timing and His answer may be different from what we would wish for. We should trust His answer because our God is good, God loves us, and His plan is perfect for us (Romans 12:2).
Let us pray… “Father-God, thank you for guiding us to dive deep in the Believer’s Prayer in the last 7 months. We thank you and we love you, as we know more deeply how much you love us. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.”
