In the New Year, looking forward (3)

In the New Year, looking forward… we all wish to have a better year than last year…

“Do not fear, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you” – Isa 41:10

Fear is one of the primitive emotions. Fear ranges from basic safety to missing out. Fear can paralyze a person.

Jeff Bezos, 56 and is the richest man in the world, has said, “When I am 80 or 90, the thing that I fear or regret the most would be not doing what I really wanted to do”. What keep us from doing what we really want? Is it fear of failure? If we don’t try to do what we love, then we will already fail because we won’t have a chance to realize our dream. Time will pass and we will die anyway!

History gives us great examples about fear. Lets look at 2 great persons:

- In American history, Abraham Lincoln was a US President. He had many failures (you can google them) but never gave up until he became President. The American civil war happened under Lincoln as he fought to free the slaves in the US, but he never gave up his fight. He succeeded and became one of the most admired and loved presidents. Lincoln never gave up in the face opposition and was assassinated for doing what he believed.

- In the Bible, Caleb was a servant with strong faith under Joshua. Caleb spied the Promised Land when he was 40 (Joshua 14:7). Over 40 years later, he and Joshua, the only two remained adults of his generation, entered the Promised Land (Joshua 14:10-11). Caleb never gave up even when God’s plan took a long time and eventually died.

Prayer this week:

Father in heaven, I come to you today with awe and gratefulness. I thank God the Son Jesus for dying for me, God the Father for adopting me, and God the Holy Spirit for dwelling in my heart. Bless me with a strong spirit as a child of God. Help me with strong faith to pursue your plans to the end. Help me to honor you with my life as a child of God. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
